LITHGOW, Central West, NSW, Australia - A truck driver was ambushed and shot twice, early on Tuesday morning on the Great Western Highway at Mount Lambie, 14 kilometres west of Lithgow, heading towards Bathurst.

The truck driver, a 42-year old man was apparently asleep in his vehicle when the surprise attack occurred. After being treated at the scene he was airlifted to a hospital in Sydney with gunshot wounds in both legs

Police Scientific Squad officers rushed to the scene of the incident, while also investigating a second site on the Rydal Rd.

Investigations into this developing story continue, however Chifley Police say "the circumstances would suggest there is more to the story, yet to be established, and they're working hard to do just that. While it may just be a random event it is more likely there are further details they need to establish."
